Profile of a Dance Teacher


Teresa specializes in a broad range of dance ranging from Hip Hop, Disco, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Swing, Salsa, Latin (Rhythm), Ballroom (Smooth) and C&W Line & Couples Dancing. 

Teresa has been teaching dance to children & adults for 28 years.  Trained under Peggy Spencer (M.B.E) she is a Fellow of the “Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing” (I.S.T.D) in the UK, and currently holds the position of Dance Representative for the NWD of AAHPERD.  During her time as VP Dance for MAHPERD, she has written two dance syllabuses ‘A Social Dance Unit for Elementary Schools’ and ‘A Social Dance Syllabus for the Middle & High Schools’ and is a frequent lecturer at Annual Conferences throughout New England to Physical Educators. She also has taught Professional Development in dance since 2006. Teresa has also presented nationally for AAHPERD in Baltimore in 2007 & Fort Worth in 2008. Prior to coming to America, Teresa spent eight years in Hong Kong, where she ran her own dance studio, taught dance in schools and coached Cotillion (Latin & Ballroom and dance etiquette). Her performing teams demonstrated at the annual Youth Arts Festival and many other major events in Hong Kong including the Closing Ceremony of the International Rugby Seven's.

Dance Representative for North-West Association (AAHPERD)
2008 - 2010.
Vice President Elect of Dance for Eastern District Association (AAHPERD)
Teresa was Vice President of Dance for the Eastern District Association for 2007/2008. During that year she lectured at five New England conventions to Physical Educators in social dance, Swing, Salsa, Hip Hop and Line dancing and presented at the AAHPERD Convention in Fort Worth in April 2008. In February 2008 at the EDA Convention Teresa organized and managed the Dance Gala in Newport RI which involved organizing a program of dancers from various Public Schools, Colleges and Universities in the Eastern district to perform.
Vice President of Dance for MAHPERD
From September 2004 to 2008 Teresa was the Vice President of Dance for MAHPERD (Massachusetts Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance). In that year she has lectured at four conventions to Physical Educators in social dance, Swing, Salsa, Hip Hop and Line dancing. Teresa has completed two dance syllabuses ‘A Social Dance Unit for Elementary Schools’ an ‘A Social Dance Syllabus for the Middle & High Schools’ which is a very helpful addition to the dance units taught by Physical Educators as part of physical education classes. In 2006 Teresa added Professional Development to Physical Educators in Dance which has become extremely popular with Physical Educators
Westwood Educational Foundation
In 2002, the Westwood Educational Foundation awarded a grant to teach dance in seven local schools, appointing Teresa the position “Dancer in Residence”.  This was the first time that dance had been taught in these schools, and over 200 classes took place in the school year 2002-03.
